How to Strip Copper Wire for Recycling

How to Strip Copper Wire for Recycling ?

Recycling copper is not only good for the environment, but also a good way to make a little extra cash. Copper is generally encased in hard plastic insulation, and most recycling centers will not take it with the insulation intact. The copper must be stripped and cut into smaller pieces before it can be recycled. This is time-consuming work, but is fairly easy to accomplish with common tools.

•  1 Have two buckets nearby when you begin. One bucket is for the stripped wire and the other is for the insulation.
•  2 Place a piece of wire on a surface and use a vise or your hand to hold it in place at one end.

•  3 Run the box cutter blade down the top of the wire. Be sure to cut all the way through the insulation to the copper. Start from the secured end and go all the way to the end.
•  4 Peel the insulation away from the wire. Place the copper in the bucket and discard the insulation in the other bucket.
